Racing seats
Trying to decide on polyethylene (jegs or summit)or aluminum Kirkey style seats. Big difference in price. Are the poly seats that inferior to aluminum? There appears to be no Sema type spec on seats, so, any "aftermarket" seats are legal? Anybody have any "real world" experience with the poly seats? Thanks, Ron.

Re: Racing seats
Ron,
You might search this topic as it was beat to death when stock was allowed to use aftermarket seats. Someone pointed out the steel inserts in the plastic seats as a concern if I recall. If you have noticed looking at the cars at the races the majority have Kirkey installed. Being able to brace the seat and also fasten it to the car favors an aluminum seat in my opinion. Due to the seat being a lot thinner compared to a factory seat, bracing will be mandatory. Sean |
Re: Racing seats
This is a Chevelle with a pair of Jaz seats installed. Seat mounts are fabed out of CM tubing. They look like they're laid way back but the car owner and I both like this location for head room, leg room and distance to the pedals and wheel, comfort and vision. I like the Jaz seats, they are more compact than the Kirkey. The seat belt slots are not always in the optimum location, but having to modify that would not prevent me from using this seat. We lost about 80 pounds by replacing factory buckets and tracks with this set up.

Re: Racing seats
I have the poly seats in my car. I have them through bolted and did not use the threaded inserts for mounting. They are not as pretty as the aluminum but are very comfortable and light.

Re: Racing seats
I run the JAZ poly seats in my car, and have them through bolted. The back of the seats are bolted to a brace fabed off my cage. The seats are very comfortable, and rock solid.

I doubt you want to spend this much but they say if you wreck, these are good

Re: Racing seats
If you are tall stay away from any of the poly seats. The aluminum ones give you more head room by a few inches.
