Cylinder head milling
Anyone got a good handle on how much to mill per cc.
Ford 302 head to be exact. Thanks |
Re: Cylinder head milling
Depending on chamber size to start with, the smaller ones (60-62) usually around .006 per cc

Re: Cylinder head milling
There is a formula for this. Read this link and do the measurements and calculations. Each time you shave 1cc out of the chamber it changes it's configuration and you should do the calculations all over again for the next cut.
Since combustion chambers have a different shape depending on the casting family it's hard to make a generalized statement. http://www.eatonbalancing.com/blog/2...1cc-reduction/ There's a chart that will put in the ballpark at the link. Dale |

most of time from .006-.008 will be close to 1cc on most heads.

Re: Cylinder head milling
Most accurate way to know how much to mill is to assemble the valves in the head, set it with combustion chamber up on a stand or braced so that the surface is perfectly level. Then pour the amount of combustion chamber volume into each chamber and measure to the surface of the liquid with a depth mike. Record the depth measurement for each chamber and you can average the amount to mill off the surface. No guessing and you can get it where you want in one cut.
