Roller cams in stock (older cars) have been proposed, asked for, begged for, pleaded for, and whatever else for, but to no avail. Flat lifters on older motors have been an issue and a costly one when a problem occurs, but as far as I know NHRA has not responded positively. Maybe someone knows better than me. I hope so. Flat lifters left the gate 30 or so years ago.

If you gentlemen would like roller lifters I would suggest running Superstock. That class has all the stuff stocker dream of.
I believe it's called stock eliminator for a reason

Maybe so CB, but maybe for not such a good reason.

I have a friend who no longer posts here, who proposed $200 solid lifters for Stock, years ago. Not much interest there, at that time.
But, now we have $800 ceramic bottom lifters, $400 tool steel ones, all with only .015 thou travel, which are completely legal.
Plus now I'm told you need the ceramic ones to break in the tool steel ones..
Makes you wonder who thinks these rules up sometimes.

No ,I'm not advocating roller retrofits in Stock .

My thoughts are...if you want these items, just build a car that comes with them.
Of course that goes for a lot of stuff already made legal to use, too.

My Shubecks got rusty sitting in the shed with the rest of my 396 I ran in 2003, don't know if I can clean up.

As far as "stock" Stock Eliminator that all changed with the cam duration rule way back.

A roller cam and lifters would be cheaper than what we need to get now..

It was valve spring rule, not the camshaft rule.

Good roller lifters that will last are not cheap either. Inexpensive solid roller lifters will not hold up any better than the tool steel lifters with the light valve springs used on a stock eliminator engine. They will up the RPM range and then on to the next problem.
