General kinetics cam Id.
 
I have run across a Gk cam Cic 431-f for a sbc.Can someone come up with the specs for it? Thanks

Don't think you'll find it in a catalog...Believe you have a "431" Stocker cam for the
early 283-327 engines...I had a GK catalog back in the day and the Stocker grinds
weren't listed...They DID have page saying that they did make Stock "cheater" cams
and that you had to call for info...The other major companies did the same....

This is probably because there was a lot of R & D going on and many changes...
hence the "f" connotation...in your case...betcha there was a "431-plain"..then
an "A".."B"..."C"...etc...all pretty much "different"...even though ALL met "lift-duration
and overlap as per the rules at that time...

MAYBE there's some veteran enthusiasts on here that might be familiar with these
cams...NOT sure if you can tell the AGE of the cam...whether it was ground in the
pre-1972 "hey-day"...or later...for real specifics I would try to contact whomever
bought GK's data...when they eventually closed...but it might be too much trouble...

For starters...I would try to confirm the approx. .266" lobe lift it should have...oh
BTW, I think the cam had .399" lift at the valve...and 300?-degrees advertised
duration..and of course...it was hydraulic lifter as an OEM...

Think GK favored "dwell-type" lobes...I remember when Cam Dynamics came on
the scene and offered the "7000-series" Stocker cam as an alternative...

If it helps, I had a GK 431-D camshaft that was 248 degrees duration @ .050" for both intake and exhaust, 110 lobe separation and .265" lobe lift. It was for 57-66 SBCs with the NHRA specs of 300 degrees duration intake and exhaust, 78 degrees overlap and the .398" valve lift. It was the first "cheater" cam I ran in the 283 Chevelles.

Thanks for the info guys.I got it from a old stock racer that ran a 283 stocker.The lobes are the "dwell type" flat top.
