Champ Pan Pickup SB40 install

Trying to install a Champ Pans pickup SB40 but it is a really tight fit, can't seem to get it started into the pump. Tough to get any angle or tool to tap in. Anyone installed one of these and what method did you use-trick/technique? I am not big on just using a bigger hammer.
Thanks

You have two choices, hone the hole in the pump body just enough to get the p/u tube started and or grind/sand around the p/u tube. Then have the tube welded. This happens all the time.

I taper the lead edge of the pickup tube. Then use one of the clamp on style tools to install. I do like it sealed up with brazing so it doesn't suck air.

Soooo, sanded with 180 wet/dry then 220 kept checking the fit, got it snug with about 1/8 left to go in, then kinda pressed it in rest of way. The pickup asm has a heavy tab on it that one of the pump bottom bolts goes thru, so used some Loctite on it, don't see the need to weld/braze. Took a while to fit it up though. but got it done.
