TH 350 help
I run a turbo action 350 with a ATI converter, recently the converter would not flash above 4,000 and it a 5,800 stall converter. So we put the spare converter in which is a 5200 and we have the same issue won't go above 4,000. I find it hard to believe i have two bad converters. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks. Andy Mylin |

Stator shaft (big splined tube) is possibly loose. Also you could have another pump problem, or valve body problem. Do you run a transmission cooler?

Re: TH 350 help
No Sir, I don't run a cooler

Re: TH 350 help
I'm not a sir. Just a guy.
Any other changes before this started? Checked the basics? Fluid level? Ignition sytem? Fuel system? Timing? |
Re: TH 350 help
We have changed just about everything MSD box, coil, fuel pump, fuel reg, Carb, Converter. Trans fluid level looks good and the timing is were it should be. Checked the stator shaft but it is tight. Going to call Turbo Action in the morning and see about a new valve body.

Re: TH 350 help
Do not just replace parts arbitrarily. It has not worked so far, and is not likely to work, at least until you have spent way too much money.
The next thing to do is to perform the appropriate pressure tests on the transmission. It is the pump that charges the converter with fluid. The valvebody controls line pressure, and as a function of line pressure, there is charge pressure to fill the torque converter with fluid. It is possible that there is one or more problem inside the pump. |
Re: TH 350 help
if your engine is down on power you will lose stall speed

Re: TH 350 help
Engine checks out fine no issues there.

Re: TH 350 help
Did you ever figure out what the issue was? Is it running fine now?
