Carburetor I.D.#?
Found a large Rochester 2 barrel carburetor in my stash while cleaning up today. I.D.# is 7040426. What did this once live on? It's not in the engine specs in the tech bulletin from NHRA. It's complete. I don't remember where I got it.

Re: Carburetor I.D.#?
In about 1980, I had a 70 Chevelle 250 horse 350. It got a quadrajet and an intake change at some point while I had it. That's probably where it came from.

Thanks for the info. The Class Racer family comes through again!

Re: Carburetor I.D.#?
Measure the venturi and see if it is one of the infamous 1.375" carbs. You could have a semiprecious treasure.

Re: Carburetor I.D.#?
Kind of amazing that the 396/265 horse carb is smaller than the 350/250 carb. My 70 Chevelle as I remember had quite a bit of torque and was kind of fun to drive. It was rather fast for a car with only a 2 barrel.

Interestingly enough, the 265 horse 400 had a 1.250"venturi. Seems more is sometimes less. |
Re: Carburetor I.D.#?
"California" could be the reason for the smaller venturi.

Re: Carburetor I.D.#?
Might also be the reason for the fact that that carb number isn't on the NHRA tech sheet. Certainly there is no reason to use it anyway.
