Ingersoll Rand compressor
 

I have a 80gal Ingersoll Rand air compressor in my shop. The compressor motor is wired to 220 on the wall with a breaker. Then it runs out to a power pole that also feeds my well. Everytime you turn on the compressor it trips the breaker at the power pole not the one in the garage. I bought a new breaker but that didn't fix it. I'm a terrible electrician lol any ideas? Thanks. What size motor? What size breaker for the air comp and for the shop? It may be a bad breaker at the pole

Does the compressor even try to start? It may be a capacitor is bad in the motor. They are very cheap, and easy to replace.

I replaced the breaker at the pole. It starts and runs for about 10 seconds then trips the breaker.

Did it ever work, or is this a new install? The breaker in the shop must be the correct size determined by what the id tag on the motor says. Then the breaker on the pole must be larger. Then the wire must be large enough for the breaker. Perhaps the first thing to check would be to make certain all connecrions are clean and tight.

I've had it for 7 years worked like a champ until recently.

If it has run for seven years, then other than checking for loose connections, then more than likely the start capacitor has gotten weak.
