Is this belt mounting legal?

Re: Is this belt mounting legal?
The belt mounting looks correct. The shoulder harness can't be mounted to the floor so the seat can "fold" forward. Better check to see if you need a roll bar per NHRA class rules.

Re: Is this belt mounting legal?
That's interesting!! The brace is mounted where the upper OEM seat belts were originally mounted, which is a pivot point. The brace is then secured to the floor to stabilize it. There is no structure of a roll bar in place, and the seat is so far forward a seat back brace is required. It appears the belts are OEM that are being reused as well? It must be fast it has a fire extinguisher!

Re: Is this belt mounting legal?
I've installed a couple of setups like that in late model Vette's for the owners to compete in SCCA sanctioned club racing events.
I would think it's a great idea in a Stocker or Bracket car that does not require a roll bar. I'd ask Div. Tech to confirm it. |

I didn't get a chance to track down the owner. It was at a Shriners fundraiser for the Shriners Hospital here (we brought the Pierce Arrow which had the valve seat issues a few months back) and had hoped to catch him during our wanderings. I guessed it was more of a Autocross thing, didn't even think about SCCA as you describe. To stray a bit, there were no current NHRA drag cars in attendance of about 300 cars with maybe 100 muscle cars. We were parked across the aisle from a 1939 Graham Shark Nose, don't recall ever seeing one before. At a summer show we attended a local guy brought out his Tucker, no current drag cars there either. Lots of Mopar Max Wedges and Tri Power Pontiacs here. So essentially it is just relocating the shoulder belt mounting then? |
Re: Is this belt mounting legal?
Although it wouldn't look as clean, I would cross the shoulder straps and narrow up the mount slide stops. I believe with the set-up pictured in a passenger side hit you would come out of the left side of the harness too easily. JMO though.

Here's a link to the Brey-Krause Company that makes harness mounting bars for Camaro's and Mustang's (and Porsche's too!).
http://www.bkauto.com/default.asp They have a display at PRI every year and are always adding new items to their product lines. (Please tell them the "Wagon Master" sent you!) |
