Ballast box designs
Im ready to do a ballest box in the car and need some insight on how and where one puts it, photos would help. I know the rule book explains this but kinda vague to me and whatever you guys have made does work. What's used for weight? Lead? I guess it would have to be removable or added to go up and down a class, right? Any help would be appreciated.
Oh yea forgot to add, I want to incorporate this into the rear cage bars if possible. |

When asked by a racer about weight in the box, I suggest using units of 10 lbs each such as lead. Set the car up with 50 lbs in the box. As you go from track to track if the scales vary, up to 50 lbs can easily be added or removed.

I took the rule book to my friend's fab shop, had him build me one to those specs. Looks just like the picture in the rule book. Bought 25lb bags of lead shot at Bass Pro Shop. Made myself a ten & 15 lb bag of shot, and a 5 lb bag. I can adjust for scales anywhere I go.

Thanks, good info so far, never had to worry about adding or subtracting weight before in a race car. How is the box attached,to floor, frame, high, low? Figuring out where I want the bars in the trunk area now so if it is attached I can do it now instead of later

You only need a weight box if you are going to run loose ballast like shot bags. I see some who have hard weights mounted with a large stud and nut to the frame rail. You are only allowed 100 lbs. of removable ballast

The "trick" is to build your combo as light as you can and then add weight in strategic places. If you place thick steel flat bar plates to a frame structure with two 1/2" bolts and tack weld the end of the nut, then this is not considered removable ballast. Add a weight box to fine adjust for different scales and your set.
