Vegas
Any comments on Vegas going 4 wide next year?

Re: Vegas
Reminds me of Warren Johnson's quote a few years ago:" NHRA is into Entertainment Engineering"

Re: Vegas
They continue to pour $$ into appealing to the uneducated fan base who will ultimately desert them for other venues that offer just as much entertainment for less money. Meanwhile the real sportsman base struggles with rising costs and less payouts. At this pace bracket racing/Big Bucks racing will continue to harvest the young drivers as Stock/Super Stock/Comp racing ranks dwindle by comparison. Of course, the only thing that really matters to the Glendora suits is their compensation packages so why would it be any different?

The whole 4-wide thing is another gimmicky circus that will eventually wear thin. Just like Jim said, the fan base that it appeals to will move on to whatever the next flavor of the week is or at least go back to watching Street Outlaws. The fall Vegas race was always on my bucket list; I'm not so sure any more. |
Re: Vegas
They DO NOT need to have another 4 wide at Vegas. It is a gimmick that has been used off and on for many years. The one we have now is one too many. Drag racing is 2 cars side by side and should be 1320 feet, but that's just my 2 cents.

Re: Vegas
Vegas is the entertainment city. It now has a Hockey team and they are building the Las Vegas Raider stadium for NFL football here next year. Bruton Smith built the race track way back when intending to have a 4 wide. The ground was already roughly prepared. It will be done I bet for the fall race 3 months. I really don't see how it effects sportsman racing. We get called to the lanes through the same speakers and run down our lane. If there are more fans to watch so be it. I could be one of those "the uneducated fan base" and I surely have no marketing skills. I'm sure Bruton Smith is flipping the dime not NHRA.

Re: Vegas
I think it's great! I wish Stock and Super Stock would run class eliminations 4 wide!

Re: Vegas
I agree with Bryan run class 4 wide then the AHFS would work. i don"t see 1 person able to convince the other 3 to only race to the 1000ft.

Re: Vegas
The first four-wide race will be in April 2018, and next year's October event will remain two-wide.
That is according to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Facebook page. |
