Re: caltract wheely bars
I have a 67 Belvedere , and I don't think the Calvert wheelie bars will fit , because of the Spare tire well in the trunk . Looks like they are meant to fit cars that have a flat trunk floor , and the gas tank fits below that flat floor . The other thing that is unique is that roller that rides on the underside of the trunk floor . Do you need to put some sort of brace or stiffener to keep the trunk floor from buckling ?

early B body 62 - 65 remove fuel tank ( fuel cell in trunk) floor is flat, will the caltracs
work with a 8.75? |
Re: caltract wheely bars
A few years ago,I talked with Calvert and he said I would have to stiffen the trunk floor,at least in my 68 Camaro. I have the bars from Ken Keir on the car and I'm happy with those. They bolt on to a plate sandwhiched between the rear end housing and the inspection cover.

Re: caltract wheely bars
I have a set on my '69 Camaro, but haven't got to use them yet. I didn't trust just bracing the trunk, so I ran a 1" x 2" tube down the center of the trunk, and tied it into the rear framerails. Not class racing, so I don't have the bolt-on/weld-on rules to contend with, but it should be plenty strong.

Re: caltract wheely bars
Steve Wann has them on his '62 car. It runs ok, I guess.
