SBC Oiling

Freshening my 350/287 hp motor and the oil pan that was on it looks like a Milodon with a trap door and baffle on the passenger side. I have a 1965 Corvette oil pan and pickup with windage tray, crank scraper and oil pump plate that sandwiches betwwen the pump and rear main cap. Mellings HV oil pump too. Any recomendations on which pan and wether to use the scraper or windage tray (Corvette original too) and also feelings on the lifter valley shield.
Thanks in advance
Rich Boyle

I would not put that high volume pump in it.
The SBC is the last engine that would need one.

Standard volume high pressure. Mellings make's billet or standard. Make sure to get the correct pickup.

The Melling 10553 is a good pump STD Volume High Pressure or the 10552 is a 10 % more volume pump which is a pump Ii use a lot of.

I never use a 25 more volume pump.

It really depends where all your clearances are !!!!

a scraper custom fit to the crank is worth the effort. the bigger the pan the better. corvettes pan and its trap door is great. be safe with the amount of oil. lifter valley tray to keep the hot oil off the intake.

As well, consider working on controlled oil return to the pan.

Standard stock as a rock oil pump. It's all you need in a sbc.

There ya go! I never used high pressure. 45/50 is plenty if everything else is right.
I have run 40 psi for years. I have a rear main cap, tapped for a hose to an oil pressure gauge for testing pressure. I just drop the pump into my parts washer, hooked to an electric drill. What I see there is always what I see in the car.

I have one of Allen Sherman Sr's low volume pumps in mine right now.
