10.90 Race

Yesterday at Orlando Speed World Dragway eight local Super Street racers put together an eight car Super Street Race. We had planned this for a couple of weeks. Wade Rich suggested the date and it worked out well for us.

Each racer kicked in $100 each over the track entry for the purse and it was winner take all. Mike Griggs was the winner and Randy Whitener was runner up.

The rules were simple. A 10.90 index, a .470 Pro tree, each car got two time runs, pairings were done by blind draw for each of the three rounds. Each racer's pairing also determined the lane each driver would have. No flipping of coins for lane, just pair up with your opponent in your assigned lane and race. No one was scaled.

Some may ask why we didn't ask anyone else to join in. Good question. 1. We weren't sure we could even get more than eight drivers. 2. I haven't done this kind of thing before. 3. Keeping it simple allowed us to figure what worked. One of the racer's wives helped by holding the purse and recording pairs and results. The group was also able to sort out how any bye runs would be assigned.

The Southern Stock and Super Stock Association ran there yesterday and we just followed after them. This made it easy for the tower to keep track of what class needed a pro tree.

It was a beautiful day, just perfect for racing.

Re: 10.90 Race

Check out midwestsupercomp.com this association has been running for thirty years with the same idea you used at Orlando. Entry after track test and tune is $100 and payouts start with second round loser at $75 and go up $50 per rnd. The payout for different size fields is on their website. They average over 20 cars at each race and they schedule one race Sat. and one Sun.
Look at the website for ideas association racing is gaining in popularity and are a win win for the racers and tracks
This group of racers are as tough as they come with divisional and national event winners competing on a regular basis, if you can win one of these races you can win at any level.
Good luck promoting your 10:90 races and have fun.

The super Street deal sounds right. Especially the first round pairing. The big dogs always line behind there team mate or the other big dogs, so they don't have to race each other , , ,first round, Looking for ducks

Yes I know that but WHY is the tree still listed as .500 in S/ST and .400 in S/C and S/G in the NHRA rule book ???????????

I'll likely do more in the future. I'd like to do 16 cars. It's only another round.

What I don't want to do is over-complicate things. .90 racers put up with enough of that already.
