Gear Selection

this winter i plan to build a pure stock elinimator nova. i was woundering what gear ratios i should go with in the trans and rear? heres some info on my car. if you need more please ask.

engine-350 2 or 4 barrel; 390/410 195/202@050 800-4800
trans-350 turbo
rear-8.5 10-bolt
weight-3214 (thats shipping weight)
tires-28-29.5x9x15 bias ply or radial i dont know yet which is the best for my combination.

Re: Gear Selection

Is this a 69 or 70? It matters on the 2 Barrel combo - which is a good combo.
Gear as tight as you can unless your driving it in - then 4.11 is about max on the freeway.

Re: Gear Selection

You may want to check with IHRA on your cam specs. You may be pleasantly surprised by the duration numbers. I would also get the valve spring pressure from them as this was my limiting factor when I ran Pure Stock. When you get these figures, it will be easier to choose a convertor and gearing.
Good Luck,
Joe

I'm putting new 'shoes' on the car at Rockingham. Might not be a lot left on them, but you can try my 9x29.5 M/T radials then. Radials must certainly be the ticket for a Pure Stocker!

furr980,
Join this group, http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group...OCKdragracing/. You'll get plenty of help from these guys. The 29.5 Mickey T radials were a .10 faster on my Pure Stocker in a back to back.
Later, Joe

Re: Gear Selection

I would put a 2.75 gear in the trans and a 4.88 in the rear running radials. You might want to check cam specs on the 73 and 74 . One had a optional calif cam with more duration,401/401 lift, if available I would use the 4bbl.

Re: Gear Selection

the 74 is the one that has the 401 cam....also an 8.5 rearend will be fine in a pure stocker...you can get up to a 5.38 ring & pinion.....my cutlass has an 8.5 with a 5.13 gear & i've turned as good as 1.61 60's with it.
