I too race as a form of escape from the rigors of everyday life. I love every minute at the track, even when the SOB is broke and I'm thrashing on it. The friends I have met over the years makes it all worth while. I enjoy seeing them and look forward to it. I can only think of a handful of times when I have been greeted with something other than a smile. That is very refreshing in our world today. We all share the same ups and downs of this sport!

Thanks for the great article John!

This reminded me of the cover from Popular Science magazine, December 1963.

I have to explain this all the time when crossing the border. They can't understand that I do something that I know I'm likely to lose money on because it's fun LOL. Even though I'm pretty sure the is the literal definition of a HOBBY. They automatically assume that I make money doing this and need to pay taxes etc.

Great article John. For me it was time with friends doing what we loved to do.

I haven't raced myself in a few years, but still enjoy each trip to the strip hanging with my many friends and loving every minute of it.

When I did race it was trying to go as many rounds as possible each time, getting the car to faster, or having as much fun as possible. Sometimes all three at the same time - very cool.

The drag strip is my favorite place on earth, the sounds, smells - it's addicting.
