Holes in the firewall
In traditional S/S, can you weld up ... or fiberglass in the holes in the firewall from the heater box, wiper motor, and/or other misc. holes? Thanks

Re: Holes in the firewall
I Know welding or Aluminum patches work....
I do not know about fiberglass. |
Re: Holes in the firewall
Wade , the rules regarding fiberglass bodies usually state similar material particularly in regards to floor or wheel tubs.
I assume this is on your C1 build. I would see no problem with glass for closing it up . especially the inlet hole . |
Re: Holes in the firewall
I am GLAD someone is actually thinking of NOT leaving the holes there. A firewall is just that, a FIREWALL! I can't believe the amount of cars I have worked on that had holes in the firewalls and floors! Carpet sure ain't gonna stop those flames!
I would prefer metal, but if it is a fiberglass car like a 'Vette, then may as well stick with 'glass though sheet metal would be easier, would not look as nice if you know how to work that itchy stuff! I have a friend that had a hole maybe the size of a half dollar and he could not believe the amount of fire that came into the car one time, he learned! |
Re: Holes in the firewall
Thanks for the returns fellas, I have these areas sealed up with fiberglass and nicely finished ... ready for paint. You won't be able to tell where the holes used to be. It's not a molded firewall like a show car, but it is filled holes with the same material as produced ... like a nice car. I was just wondering if it was an issue with tech where you had to use a metal plate to cover any holes (not being familiar with S/S rules). I do have some experience with the fact that it is a fiberglass car, and officials are quick to say use steel here and there. And that there are not a whole lot of these C-1 cars in traditional Super/Stock (SS/LA). Todays tech folks don't have a lot experience with these old fiberglass cars (they may know these cars as modified cars but not traditional super/stock) and that can result in a hasty decision. Just trying to put my best foot forward and avoid conflict that's all
