Sunglasses question
 

Do you wear sunglasses when racing? IF so are they prescription? polarized? What effect do they seem to have on your lights?

Dad and I were having a discussion about this. He says that sunglasses hurt his light, but I've always worn them when its sunny, not when cloudy. Doesn't seem to have a noticable effect on me.

Chad, yes I wear sunglasses when I'm racing. I wear them during the day and the night. My sunglasses are Oakley polarized and they work great. During the day time the yellow seems to be a little bit sharper and at night they deduce the glaire and does not give you night blindness. I've worn my sunglass since I started driving in 1994 and I don't see any change in my driving with or with out them. Hope that helps you and your dad.

I like polarized sunglasses. The trouble is when you run into the evening the lights get brighter. You have to decide whether to take them off, or run with them on. I found on a bright day, I was about .01 quicker with them on. I wear contacts, and I have a hard time "seeing" the tree on a bright day without sunglasses of some sort. Polarized seem to always be cleaner.

I think it's a trial and error thing. God knows I have made many errors in my racing "career".

Not sure if this helps, but I have given some thought to this subject.

With an off-the-shelf WalMart clip-on, I've found that if you're on a track that faces into the sun such that you're squinting on a bright day, sunglasses would actually pick you up .010. If you're not having to squint with them off, however, they can slow you .010. You can test how they effect *you* in various conditions, on your practice tree.

I wear them during the day,and up until mid evening.Then I go back to my regular glasses.I did find that once I took them off I would redlight almost everytime in eliminations,so I had to adjust front tire pressure to compensate.My glasses are prescrips and are polarized.

Oakley Shooting Glasses; they come with different lenses for highlighting specific colors for targets. Play with the lenses and you will find which ones are more suitable for day and night. Not cheap but the best.

I am an optician and I race and polorized lens will help alot. During the day, it will bring out the colors of the tree and at night it will elminate the glare.
