Fram filter recall
Honeywell International, maker of Fram oil filters announced a recall of HP4&HP8 racing filters yesterday. .... The suspect filters made between May25 and Sept14 2006 , are prone to leaking at the seal under high temperatures. .........I wonder if anyone had to pay NHRA for this problem? ......more than 120,000 filters are involved. .....Tom

Re: Fram filter recall
Tom,
Thats the main reason I stopped using Fram years ago..The other problem was the insides were falling apart and clogging the oiling systems...Many guys lost engines on the dyno, Fram claimed they had no problem...Anyway thanks for the heads-up... See yah next year... |

Re: Fram filter recall
Wasn't that a HP4 Fram on John Asta's car at the Keystones? That sure does make you want to pay a fine when Fram is selling defective parts.

Re: Fram filter recall
Marty, Thats exactly wahat I posted to John on the .90 side. ...I've used the HP4's for years with no problems ,but after hearing all the troubles others are having, I think I'll switch to K&N. ..Several years ago ,I experianced similar problems with Wix filters, and got away from using them. ......Like anything else in racing, trouble with components seems to go in cycles. ... Re: Fram filter recall
I quit using Fram several years ago. I worked at a Ford dealer and we cut open several brands of filters and had them display for customers to see and form there own opinions. The Fram was one of the poorest excuses for a filter we opened. Much less filter material and glued on ends made out of some type of cardboard. Some of the "discount" brands were better looking inside. Brian

Re: Fram filter recall
We use AC Delco and have not had problems yet.

Re: Fram filter recall
I ran a Fram filter at the begining of the year at the Great Bend race and after first round we lost about 20lbs of oil pressure. I came home and took the fram filter off cut it open and found nothing, put a new AC Delco on and pressure came right back and have not had a problem since. FRAM FILTERS SUCK!!!!!!!

Re: Fram filter recall
I have seen and personally experienced oil pressure issues at least 3 times on race engines. I also dis-assembled a damaged BB Chev. and noticed the inside of the filter was completely out of position relative to the can. Fram was the brand every time these issues were found/ experienced. I won't use one on anything since the early '90's. I have had good luck with Wix and Wix racing filters on race engines and I like the Purolator-Pure One on my tow truck. My truck needs an anti- drain back valve style filter as it's mounted at 90 degrees to the engine. I found that some filters were a lot better than others at staying full after the engine was shut down. I don't care for that rattle I heard on a cold start with some brands. The Pure One's and the Mobil 1 branded filters never do it.....
