Curious ? on chroming

Have, had anyone Flash Chrome or Chrome crank journals. It was brought about Flash Chroming items and after ready the thin layer I think was .00005 thick and would help on coefficient of friction. I think it use to be done but don't know if it is still done today.

It is not done anymore because there are other finishes that are more effective than flash chroming such as REM, Micronite and others. The final surface finish is more important and should have a 10 Micro-Inch Ra finish or better. Many racing crankshafts are Ion Plasma Nitrided also. The crankshaft journals run on a hydrodynamic oil film at all times.

Good morning, yes i completely agree the surface finishes listed above are better then "Flash Chroming". So years ago a friend with a Super Stock 396 325 HP engine had the crank done with a "chroming process" in hopes of additional HP. We were all quite disappointed when the "chroming process" peeled off the crank journals, guess what happened to the bearings.
Very messy and not pretty.
