Lt1 rear gear?
 

What is preferred rear gear in a lt1 camaro. What is rpm difference between 4.88 and 5.14. How much would mph change. Not looking for answers from a calculation but from some people with experience with lt1 combo.

I would run the 4.88. I never saw any gains from running more gear with an LT1. I also favor a 94" tire.

I have always favored running as much gear as your engine can RPM. It is physics to me for moving a heavy stationary object and accelerating it through the 1/4 mile with the tongue hanging out at the end.

A 5.14 with a 94" rollout Hoosier or a 4.88 with a 92.5" Hoosier would be where I would lean. They almost work out the same. Our LT1's carry more weight than in the past and I think enough gear is key.

I was running a 5.00 for a long time and would bounce between the 92.5" and 94" depending on the air. I don't run an automatic anymore so I went to a different gear. I do have a new in the box Richmond 5.00 that I need to sell.

I made the gear swap from a 4.56 to a 4.88 and basically saw no ET difference.....

RPM went up 200-300

I was running A/FIA at the time and weighed around 3050lbs

Engine made it's fastest runs shifting 1-2 under 7000 and 2-3 at 7000

10.50's 124-125 in good air Not killer fast but not terrible.....that was 15 years ago !!

We also ran a 4.56 in the IHRA days in A/FIA and Top Stock.

Are you running a Metric trans?


If so, with the 4:88 and 94 rollout what RPM are you through the lights?

I didn't actually list these yet, but they sold about 15 mins after I posted to a buddy in Houston. Thanks for all the interest.

I drove the car in 2011 at 2 races and by then it weighed 3200 in B/SA

Probably had the same 4.88's in it and a better fuel map and maybe a little better engine

Went 10.50's at 124-125 in real good air at Maple Grove....

Had E-shift in it then and Hoosiers.....

I ran 3066 M/T's and felt like they were faster than the Hoosiers.....

I did try moving the RPM up back when I owned the car but it did not run faster....

Big improvements in various engine parts and mods since then maybe make that not true anymore...

A few cars around that are pretty fast considering the weight that got lumped on them since I owned one....
