Re: Carb cleaner
I use awesome in my ultrasonic cleaner works great on my TQuads. On holleys I have used a diluted muriatic acid 12 to 1 and then a baking soda blast. The old holley carbs always look ratty the acid strips all that off and leaves them silver looking. You could then replate them if you wanted too.

Re: Carb cleaner
I still believe most auto parts stores still sell pails of cleaner often with a basket to dunk the disassembled carb parts for few hours or so / then rinse with hot water / compressed air to dry if you just want to remove dirt / black fuel stains etc etc ... to get into the carb material much deeper then will need something much stronger

Re: Carb cleaner
story about carb cleaning. I was working in a small garage, in Wichita, 1968. I was doing an old Carter. the piston type choke housing was full of nasty oily coke. carb went in the cleaner can. I tied a brass welding rod on the choke and tossed it in the hot tank for a few minutes, came out nice and clean. few days later, the hi school kid, who worked after school was doing a carb. did the same thing with his choke. except for about 1/2 hour. when he pulled the brass rod out, surprise. no fish on the line. I still think thats funny.

Re: Carb cleaner
Safety-Kleen still has the referenced carb cleaner but the solution in not the same as it used to be. None of the carb cleaners have methylene chloride in them anymore that I am aware of. You can "brew" your own with about a 10% volume of the methylene chloride and 90% kerosene.. Quick search for it shows it to be a bit expensive though.

Re: Carb cleaner
Berryman B-12 if you can find it and they haven't changed the formula...
Last batch I had finally ate through the drum... Stuff smelled like carbolic acid to me... Don't know what was in it but it worked... Be sure and wear gloves and don't get any on you!... Got some on my hand once... It went numb... Nasty stuff. |
Re: Carb cleaner
