Engine temperature

Converting to K/SA for F/PS noticed the new cam takes longer to warm up.
The Pure Stocker like to run better cooler.
Cooler the better.

Wanted to get feedback on ideal engine temperatures for LT1 engines.

Are you running an electric water pump ? What did you do with the thermostat ?

No thermostat.
Stock Water pump with a auxiliary one installed to meet Pure Stock Rules.
Was not allowed to put a Meziere ..
Use the Stock fan to cool radiator.

Have no problem keeping it cool.
Asking if the engine like more heat because of the cam.

Re: Engine temperature

Make a thin aluminum plate with a 5/8 hole between the intake and thermostat housing. It make take a 1/2 or 3/4 hole.

Re: Engine temperature

If you don't plug the hole below the thermostat then coolant will just circulate within the engine and wont go through the radiator . Like most small blocks , if you get the
engine cool ,below 140 F , on the starting line , it will make more power .

Re: Engine temperature

Dan,
You are going from PS, to K/SA correct,? If so, just go to the electric water pump and you can then control the temp ny just leaving it off as you warm it up. I don’t know where those engine like to be heat wise but I would be surprised if the like to be over 140 at any time. Maybe someone will add that info.
When do you expect to be out?
