Div 3 racer Dan Wilson passes

I was just notified that former Stock racer from Div 3 and a good friend of mine Dan Wilson passed away early this morning from complications brought on by two strokes. Dan was mostly known for running a K/SA Buick Apollo but was also the recipient of one of the early Dodge Challenger factory race cars when they first came out and he had been testing that car recently.

His passing was peaceful I'm told. Dan had very little family left but he had a lot of good racer friends all over which he always appreciated seeing. I know he will be missed.

RIP Danny.

Sorry to hear that. I first met him in 1986 when we were both racing SSAS. We had something in common in that we both got pummeled in class by Harold Stout and Willie Devore. He used to pull his Buick stocker with an old and very small box van he called “Vanna White”.

Sorry to hear about Dan. He had not participated at NHRA events in the last few years as he had a falling out with the sanction. He had several Stock Eliminator cars, and bracket raced at Coles County Dragway, which was only a few miles from his house. Dan always had a interesting observation on what was going on in the racing world. RIP.

This news is hard to believe. My nephews raced with him at coles county drag strip. I talked with him many times at D3 events.

Used to see him at Assumption. He had a Camaro. Later he had a brown GS 350 stocker. I believe he lost the Camaro and GS in a fire. He was quite a guy. RIP Dan.

I am sitting here SHOCKED by this horrible news but I probably shouldn’t be. We are losing racers at an alarming rate. Dan raced a Buick Apollo long before it was cool to race an Apollo. Dan always wore a button down shirt, I never once saw him in a T shirt at the track. I guess you tend to dress better when you work at a School/college. I haven’t seen him in a number of years …HE was ONE of a kind …..GODSPEED …….

Sorry to hear this. Always enjoyed visiting with Dan. Even though he didn't go to NHRA races anymore he kept up with what was going on and he would message me on FB about it.

RIP Racer Dan you will certainly be missed.
