Any know of successful track promotions?
No spectators. Is it the lack of budget or what....but I can tell you what happened to me when I was announcing at Fontana. Being an avid promoter myself over the years I was anxious to see Fontana succeed and grow so in my second year announcing I went out on my own and contacted a local radio station (KVCR) to see if they'd like to do a half hour show on getting the local street racers off the streets. The gal hosting the show thought it was a good idea and we scheduled the show.
The show aired on a Saturday, repeated on that Sunday, and was repeated a couple of times over the next two months. Not only did I talk about local programs but I talked about nationwide programs too. Getting the word out. There's lots of safe drag racing going on. The people I worked with at the track liked the idea and I got a few attaboys. I was happy as heck to help. Then this happened. The facility manager, not the track manager, was in the "tower" (we had a trailer) one day and as you can imagine I was happy to tell him how I was helping to make the place more money. He looked at me and said, "We're don't need to do that. We're not promoting to spectators" Mind you, this is the guy in charge of a NASCAR facility telling me this. My heart hit the floor. I flat couldn't understand his thinking. He didn't give a damn at all. Is it no wonder the track closed. Anyone else try to help their track to no avail? |
