GT/EA Vega question
I just saw a '72 Vega on facebook with a 2013 6.2 LS engine running in GT/EA trim. Someone brought up that they thought GT was only for cars originally manufactured with V6 or V8 engines and of course the mighty Vega only came with a 4 cyl. engine. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Re: GT/EA Vega question
That's George krieger's Vega. It's show quality and fast. Since it's running GT Super Stock it can run ANY engine that GM made from BBC, SBC, Pontiac, etc. Luke

Re: GT/EA Vega question
When Camaro and Firebird went away (2000 model year), NHRA was approached with the prospect of waiving the "must have been available with a 4-cylinder or V6", specifically to allow Cavaliers and Sunfires. The argument that won Danny and Bruce over was that earlier J-bodies had been available with V6 engines, and the later versions were essentially the same car. Also, with Camaro and Firebird disappearing, both GM and NHRA wanted a replacement, and J-car fit the bill.

Re: GT/EA Vega question
How about a Mopar engine in an AMC for SS/GT? The AMC can run a Dana or 8.75 rearend.

Re: GT/EA Vega question
I'm really not that familiar with all of the Super Stock GT stuff.
Anybody know if it would be legal to drop in a 1997 LT1 rated at 279 hp into a 1970 442 Convertible? What class would it run? Seems like it would be pretty easy with this combo to run the index? |
