79 or 80/81 malibu combo
While I am waiting on my block to get done at the machine shop I have been pondering. More like seriously thinking since people with the 80 combo like to go more than .85 under for no reason(actually ,97 under to barely get in the top 10 at a DIVISIONAL), which will likely result in this combo getting HP over the winter. I have the 80/81 combo now. I currently have cylinder heads and the front header panel to make it a 79. I already needed an intake for the current setup so getting one for the 79 model is no biggie. 79 has a bigger cam(which I don't have yet) and they are classified a good bit different. I don't see alot of the 79 combo running?
80 is KLM cam is 357/390 180/235 HP 81 is JKL, same cam 155/232 HP 79 is IJK cam is 373/410 160/243HP 79 J weight is equal to 80/81 K weight. Seems like the 80 is the best factored. Just hate to get HP while mine is still on jack stands lol. I could make a whole different post of the struggles of this engine lol. |

There’s no reason we will get HP over the winter, you can go 1 second under and not get HP….there’s fast cars in every class, if someone goes 1.20 under that’s another story

Jamie, I'd be surprised if that combo averages -.85.
There are quite a few of those cars out there. That being said, any SBC 4v or EFI, and you're asking for trouble. You're going to have to start thinking outside the box if you want to avoid such a thing ;-) |
