How Much does it cost to chase NHRA Points ???
 

My curiosity is gotten me to ask just how much it costs for a racer to commit to chasing points for the National Championship and Divisional.
Is it better to have two cars? One in SS and one in Stock? Just asking for a friend? and what is the money for winning one or the other ??? and what are the disadvantages and advantages of having two cars to race ???

Don, if you go to 6 National Events, and 8 points meets and live in Division 5, where you used to live, Its an easy 2000.00 a race with present gas prices. So, say 28,000.00 give or take. I have a Motorhome, so no hotels included in that.

As expensive as it is anymore = We always run two cars each.
One in Stock and One is SS for each of us.

To put your question in perspective. About 6-7 season's ago a buddy of mine that run's S/G won the first event, runnered up the next one and he was off and running chasing the points! He ran 24 races that season and spent $40,000 dollars doing it. He earned $24,000.00. I believe he ended up #3 that year. :rolleyes:

WHy 24 races? Anything over 6 N and 8 D does no good points wise.

I don't think there is a correct blanket answer to the question of running two cars.

More shots at the tree, more looks at the finish line, you might see something with a weather effect on the Stocker that will help you in the Super Stocker.

You can also get in a rush and lose some focus. I've noticed more than a few racers stepping back and applying all of their effort on a single car.

Not to mention the obvious difference in expense and effort of owning, maintaining, storing, transporting two cars.
