Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
Help Please. My two sons and I race in the Pure Stock Muscle Car Shootout Drag Race. My youngest son Justin is restoring a 1969 Nova "SS396" 375 h.p. 4-speed car. I want to buy a set of Morosso front drag springs for him for Christmas. For optimum ride hieght I need to know the front end weight of the car. His car is in pieces so we have no way of getting this data. My guess is that the car probably weighs about 3400 lbs (no option bench seat car) and has about 60% of that on the front end. Does any one have any data that could help?? Thank you much.

Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
In our car, we use the SBC springs (heavier of the two that moroso sels for SBC), straight out of the box. A good set of double adjustable front shocks will then optomize the combo. Ride height is perfect for a BBC 396/375 C/SA Stocker.

Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
I originally raced my '69 Nova with a small block, and bought the Moroso small block springs. When I switched to the BB it worked out well with the same spring. The car does sit a bit lower in the front but hooks up well and can have a lower attitude down track. We're getting 60 foot times of 1.41 with this setup and basic 3 way adjustable front shocks. The springs are now six seasons old, with no problems.

Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
Can anyone chime in with what springs to use if you run a small block in this same car? Moroso SB springs with a coil cut off? I have heard that some use 6-cylinder springs.
Thanks |

Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
Moroso 47150 ..........
If ride height is high, don't cut them until you tie the front end down with trailer tie downs for at least a week. |
Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
Thanks everyone for your helpful comments, But I got confussed after message #6 in regard to who the tips were for. So, what I see is that the front weight of this car is 1840#'s and I can eighter run a Morosso #47150 or small block springs for a car with A/C. Is that correct??

Re: Front end wieght of 1969 Nova
JP,
My apologies for high-jacking your thread. Sorry for adding to your confusion on this topic but, while everyone was adding their comments, I decided to ask their opinions on a SB spring. This has been one area that has always been gray for me. Hope you were able to find some help here. These guys have a ton of knowledge on this site. Good luck in your racing endeavors. |
