Re: sbc engine block weight
Adding weight to the nose will change your weight distribution and COG. Not that much overall, but some. All depends where you are at now and how close to the 'line' of being too front heavy you are already are. Do you believe the Dart block with make enough more hp than the Bowtie block to overcome that ~.05et drop? (Following the idea that 100# equates to a tenth in the 1/4.) Just my $.02...

Re: sbc engine block weight
Despite being heavier, dart OR bow tie is always superior to oem sbc block. The dart is heavier BUT not 50 lbs. There is a company in Michigan that will REDUCE the weight of the block.

Re: sbc engine block weight
The Dart Little M shipping weight is 208lbs
The Dart SHP shipping weight is 175lbs Not sure how much a filled OEM block weighs or a Bowtie but not such a big difference in weight. I prefer the Little M but that's just me. |

At 2680, I can run two full size batteries and some weight in the rear weight box with a 200 lb driver. If I was lighter it would be a non issue. I guess part of all this depends on how much you need to weigh overall and how heavy your car is. That being said, the car performs well with either block in terms of how it works and as far as hp the engines are virtually he same in hp. I like to run in G which puts me at a 2680 minimum, but if you run a heavier class and can move weight to the back, I wouldn’t be concerned about a little more weight if you thought the block was too heavy. I really like the idea of having one lightened, but not enough to spend the $$$ |
