Monocoque Wheels
Do the original Monocoque wheels have rivets or are they smooth inside? I'm looking at a set that are smooth but all the Google pictures show rivets.

Re: Monocoque Wheels
Had Monocoque's brand new back in the 80's.
Bogart made them, still can get new one's. As someone else said, they are welded together. Cragars were bolted, Centerlines were riveted. |
Re: Monocoque Wheels
Thanks Al, I was under the impression they were discontinued a while back and Bogarts website doesn't show them so I sent an email.

Re: Monocoque Wheels
I just looked on Ebay and it shows both styles, is it possible they made a bolted together aluminum wheel for drag racing and a chrome steel smooth wheel that was welded?

Re: Monocoque Wheels
I have original Monocoque wheels. They do not have bolts. The halves are welded together. The early wheels did bolt together. I bought mine just before Monocoque went out of business and Bogart started making their style wheels. To my knowledge they were never riveted

Re: Monocoque Wheels
Just talked to Ricky Bogart and they can still make that original wheel but they don't advertise it. He also took a few minutes to tell me a quick story about how they started making them which was very interesting, wooden jigs on a drill press with a hole saw to put the holes in the wheels, among other stuff.

Re: Monocoque Wheels
They (Bogarts) did originally make them. They are again, now marketed as Drag-On-Fly solid.
I just looked at photos of my Monocoque's back in the 80's, they were bolted. Maybe they offered welded and bolted back then? |
Re: Monocoque Wheels
The Drag-On-Fly solid isn't the same, they call the original wheel, that they still make, the Challenger Lite but it's not on their website. Bogart made them for the company that originally marketed them and when that company, quite literally, disappeared overnight Bogart just continued making them and they still make them today but they don't advertise that.
