Legal carbs

Can someone please confirm if you can use carb numbers other than those listed for your years combo, as long as the bore sizes spec’d match?
Thanks
Mike

Re: Legal carbs

It must be the correct type of carb.. Other than that, throttle bore and venturi size.

The way I read it the "Brands/MFG" as well as the throttle bores/venturi must be correct.
This may be a bag of worms with the new China Knock Off carbs..
Getting bounced might not be the best way to find out...

Thanks guys
Yes it would be same mfg. Looking at, for example, a ‘66 afb vs a ‘66 or ‘67 with the same bore dimensions.
I am looking at a ‘66 dodge combo but use a ‘65 - ‘70 carb with the same spec.
Thanks
Mike

Depending on the year and model, Mopars used all brands of carbs: Carter Thermoquad, AVS, AFB, Holley, and even Quadrajet.

Re: Legal carbs

There were no Thermoquads used until 1971.
Mike, please give more information as to what you're up to.

Re: Legal carbs

The 60 to 67 AFBs used on the 383, 413
and 426 SW had no weights or air valve and were all the same size and style other than part no, linkage that changed in 62 and jetting. A slightly smaller AFB that looked identical was used on the 60-62 318 and 361. The 68-70 small AVS was used on the 340 and 383, they are the same carb other than part no. and jetting. The 273 and the 67 440 HP AFBs are different from each other and were each different than any other 60s Mopar AFBs.

Re: Legal carbs

The combination I am looking at is the '66 dodge 383 4bl
It has the AFB and the specs for throttle bore and venturi size are listed.
I was wondering if the AFB for 64-67 could be used as long as they match those. I remember you could, but that may have been in IHRA.

Thanks
Mike
