Re: Heartland Park Closing
This dispute between the track owner and county officials regarding the tax value of the property has been going on for months. . We have already lost Topeka once, what a shame for D-5 racers…Also, this is bad news for the Topeka community that will feel the ripple effect of losing this track. ..local motels, gas stations , restaurants, etc…...Fortunately, the new track in Kansas City will be taking Topeka’s place on the National event schedule.

Re: Heartland Park Closing
This was a sad day for Topeka and anyone who has raced here.
I have attended every National Event at the track except the one year when SG did not compete when NHRA was eliminating one sportsmen category at many of the National Events. I was here for the first race in October of 1989 and am entered in the last race in 2023. The first few years there were actually two National Events one in the spring and one in the fall. The city of Topeka and the businesses here will surely miss all the racers and the money we all spent while here. I find it hard to imagine how a few politicians can do something like this to the community. Looks like Kansas is the big loser in this and Missouri has been handed a huge victory for their community, businesses and tax payers. Just My 10 cents which was 2 cents before inflation. They should keep that track open so all the visitors will arrive and help the other business to remain open. |
