Need some advice or a solution I have a 1997 39 ft Fifth wheel gold Rush .so I am kind of in the market for a new Dually but as I look at them they all sit up higher than my 2005 dually to me it looks like the trailer will hit the bed . Now on My old Dually, we took off the overloads, and that worked great all these Years > As anyone ran into this situation and how did you solve the issue?

I have the same problem I have a 37’ S &S trailer and had a 89 Chevy dually Now with my 08 gmc the bed rail clearance is tight so I have to raise the trailer The trailer weight is now not on the truck. This winter I am lowering the truck There are several kits on the market My truck is a
2 wheel drive also

Does taking off the overloads lower the truck any??

There are several brands. Don’t know if I am allowed to “promote” any 1 brand. But do a search for drop hangers for duallies Get about a 3” drop on rear. Gm type has replacement Torsion keys get about a 2” drop on front

Don ... is yours 2 or 4wd ? I bought a 2021 Ford Dually 2WD ... sits much lower than a 4wd

Intead of messing with the truck suspension, remove the factory bed and install a more useful type such as this. You would have more storage, and could also add an additional fuel tank for longer range.

I have a 2005 GMC Crew cab two-wheel drive that I removed the overload springs. Now I am looking for a GMC Crew cab Dually two-wheel drive hard to find a new or used one

I have the exact same problem on my 1980's gold rush. and my 2014 ram 2500. Back then, when these trailers were built, the trucks didn't sit nearly as high. I have already damaged my tailgate, when the trailer 'arms' contacted the top of the tailgate, and also damaged the top back corners of the truck bed from the same problem. Also the back of the trailer drags horribly when the angle is severe. (I have to maneuver very uneven terrain turning it around at my house). I am much more conscious to also look at the distance between the arms and the tailgate top while maneuvering and not just look at the mirrors at where the trailer is going :eek:.
In my case, my trailer had 4-pack leaf springs. I installed 5 pack leaf springs and that gained 1" on the rear of the trailer. Better, but still sits very uneven (low in the rear). I am now looking into installing air bags on the trailer suspension. Gold Rush Phil mentioned that yes, some people have done this.


Chris Bowman, the lower hitch will get the trailer to sit level, but makes the problem I have with the arms now being even closer to the tailgate and the bed top rails....
