Great Class racing!
This year at Indy was some of the best class racing ever, in my opinion. My son Andrew’s class D/SA had 12 cars. SS/GA had 9. Robbie Holmes and Johnny Fisher both ran 1.40 something under in the final of K/SA. Briglio in I/SA was equally impressive. Jim Boudreau in B/SA running in the 9’s and beating the late model cars. John Duzac going 1.20 under in a 67 Z28 in C/S. To me this is what makes Stock and Super Stock so special and cool. Glad I went up to Indy this year for class!

Re: Great Class racing!
Great post, Greg! This was my first Indy in 4 years - I drove down with my dad - and S/SS did not disappoint. The entire show was fantastic!
I'll add a few highlights to your list: - Jim Marshall's bad fast I/SA that leaves the line like an SS/IA every time - Travis Morgan's wicked fast SS/MA Firebird that could double as a Rockford Files tribute car - Larry Hill preservering through Dumbo's challenges and putting down impressive numbers in FS/D (or was there a little long-term gamesmanship here? ;) ) - Marty Buth raising the 4-cylinder stocker bar again - Ron Seibenick and Brent Kopejtka putting on a show in stock's slowest class - James Tolston presevering, sneaking nto round 1 as an alternate and pulling out a round win without a single clean run on the board - Robin Lawrence's CJ on a single run - maybe the meanest sounding Stocker I've ever heard I wish I knew the answer to the AFHS dilemma - but there's something to be said about 300 of the best class cars in the world, all in one place, all with the loud pedals welded to the floor. |

Re: Great Class racing!
Nick we have been using the this season to get the car ready for class at Indy. It has been the longest test session I’ve ever been involved with. Every run at BG Pts race and Indy we would change something trying to find performance. We made no changes from the bye run to the Class final, I thought we were close to Victor Cagnazzi performance. We still have a laundry list of things to try but we are happy. What a bunch of great cars all at one place!
Yesterday I found out why we were able to close the gap between Victor’s new and nicely done 2023 COPO 402@430, the engine was going away. He did not race in E1. |
Re: Great Class racing!
Totally agree with the car count and excellence of the field. But I think I'm more impressed with the driving. Going through eliminations, there are a lot of races being decided by three decimal places to the right. Winners should be praised, but also the losers who were so so close.
