Lt1 to ls1 ?

How hard is it to change from a LT1 to LS 1 in a 1998 camaro stocker. Is it aluminum or steel block? I know I have to have new headers but what about my fast xfi 2.0? Driveshaft? Etc. TIA.

You will need to upgrade the controller and wiring harness to fire the coil packs.
But you won't have a opti spark to deal with!

Driveshaft will be ok. Not sure about torque convertor. If you don’t want to switch to a ls1 k member and mounts. Smith Performance specialties can make solid mounts that will work with your LT1 k member. I’m a Holley guy so can’t say about your EFI stuff. But if you decide to do it. If you have a good set of headers you want to sell let me know.

ATI makes an SFI flexplate with a spacer included that allows the use of a small block converter.

Re: Lt1 to ls1 ?

I converted a 94 Camaro LT1 to a 99 LS1. Changed the tail lights and the entire front clip which was supplied by my old sponsor, Iten Chevrolet. The LS1 was completely new back then, so a core engine was hard to come by. Finished the engine and used the same converter/200 transmission, driveshaft and rear gear. In B/FIA, equivalent to C weight today, the car ran .400 quicker and about 4-5 mph faster than the LT1. I accidentally was the #1 qualifier at the Brainerd National that year and was rewarded by Bruce B with an afternoon party in the tear down barn. The biggest issue I had with the LT1 was the dreaded Opti-spark. Dyno

Motor mounts
Need ez ls or xfi ignition which should utilize your current xfi 2.0 box and harness
Starter
Headers
Water pump
Convertor and trans should be fine with flywheel adapter
LS blocks are aluminum and iron so it depends on what block is used

What was the HP when you ran the LS? It is now 382, it has been hit hard over the years. Hard to run against BB Chevys 428 Mustangs and the new Chryslers. Tom

Tom actually it’s 381 with ram air hood 382 with flat hood. And in the early 2000s hp would have been in the 320-330s range for the LS1. It can’t keep up with the vast majority of the cars you mentioned.

This is what class racing is all about it now. You go to fast you get power. It was once said there is no crying in Baseball or maybe Drag Racing.
Corvettes are 350 and as you know GTOs 340 put a stick in a F body its 342 We all pick our own combos. Tom
