Stock Eliminator - Carb Replacements

Need some help folks!

Trying to read through NHRA's accepted replacement parts and confused as all get out.

Question:

Can the Edelbrock 1404/1405 AFB replace all Carter carbs (non-max wedge) 64-67? Not all the Carter part #'s are listed (3859, 3860, etc)

Thank you,
Casey FJ

Re: Stock Eliminator - Carb Replacements

At least one of the Edelbrock carbs is a legal replacement.
It has identical throttle blades and booster to original and I
believe it is a performance improvement. It has the bigger
5 1/8 top.

Someone who races your combo will know the correct #.

Re: Stock Eliminator - Carb Replacements

My understanding is below and based on looking at running a '66 383.

The replacement Edelbrock covers the larger secondary carbs used on the 426's, etc.
They have the 1.44" primary and 1.69" secondary. Those are the numbers listed on the acceptance page.
Carter AFB 1962-1968 3447, 3505, 4139/40,
4430/31, 4619/20, 4969, 4971, 9502/03, 9626,
9636, 4216, 4354, 4623/24, 4583/84/85,
4468/69, 4661/62/63/64/65

The 383's and some 440's have a smaller secondary. But the same primary = 1.44" P and 1.56" S. Any carb with these specs are not covered with the Edelbrock's.

What's odd to me is the 1404 and 1405 have the same spec's for the throttle bores, but are listed at different flow values, 500 and 600 CFM.
Only difference I could see was the metering rod size.
