Removebale tunnel 3rd gen Camaro
 

Anyone have any ideas or pictures of a removable tunnel on a 3rd gen S/S Camaro. Want to keep the car S/S legal. I'm trying to find an easier way to get at bellhousing bolts. I also will have for sale in spring an old 350 super stock motor. Thanks Mark

That's a lot of work, and I don't think its necessary. Of course that does depend on what trans case or shield you have. Some of those trans shields really make it ignorant to get to the bolts. Not fun at all.



In my case I just went with the ATI Super Bell, and super Case.

I use a 3-foot 3/8" extension and a swivel socket with electrical tape on it so it doesn't flop around as much while guiding it up there. Reach from the tailhousing area all the way up there and deal with the bolts just fine, including putting the bolts back in with the bolt already on the socket. Easy as can be.

However the drivers-side second bolt up from the bottom can be tough as the firewall/oem tunnel bulge is right the heck there. While the transmission was out, a few aggressive smacks with a heavy hammer on that section of the firewall solved that issue.

I use a mockup trans case in the car to transfer punch a location to punch 1" holes in the firewall that align with the bolts and use removable plugs.
You just need to reference the transmission location while the engine is still in the car.
