Re: Rotary

I'm not sure, but I had an rx3 with a 12A and a 4 speed back in the late 80s and it was a screamer and so much fun to drive.
Add it to my list of cars that I wish I had today.

Re: Rotary

I remember seeing the "Samoura? Warrior" M/C Mazda of Terry Hoard at the Molson Grandnationals. His sound was incredible...and very hard for the ears...

Re: Rotary

Rotaries are still very popular in the import scene. Look up "Warriors vs Tres Quatros" from "World Cup Finals: Import vs Domestic"

Re: Rotary

Cash for clunkers was hard on the rotary cars! Great cars, but at the time they were not worth much with a dead rotary.

My interest in the rotary led to building a home grown 4 rotor engine back in the early 90's, it was basically two 13b 2 rotor engines bolted together. Also built a wedge style dirt latemodel to put it in...

More pics and info on the 4 rotor car here... https://grannys.tripod.com/4rotor.html

Also had a few engineless RX-7's laying at the time, which led to this...

Re: Rotary

I also remember a couple of other rotary engine cars back in the 90?s at island dragway. They were run by a bunch of Puerto Rican guys who were an absolute riot. They were wonderful guys, having fun and happy to talk shop, and shoot the bull with anyone and everyone around them.
And yes, those little rotary engine screamers were so effing loud you wouldn?t believe it. I?m talking twice as loud as the loudest a/s stocker you?ve ever heard. If not three times as loud. I kid you not.

Re: Rotary

I believe anyone that ever ran Atco in New Jersey came across a few of these at any test and tune they like to go bang!

Re: Rotary

Our local guy Bil Burnham still does some cool rotary stuff. He has a Samari Warrior tribute car with a turbo rotary that runs in the 9's. He also had a supercharged rotary dragster that rans in the 7's. If you think a rotary is loud, you should hear what a supercharged rotary sounds like.

and that's where they belong along with the rest of the mosquitos!

No one gets excited about a rotary engine drag car except those that run them.
