Unlimited
I wonder what the ET record would be if they didn't slow down the fuel cars with gear reductions, limitations, blower drives, etc. If someone would build a track that could handle the high speeds with a long shutdown area. I'm talking about no limitations or restrictions.
I remember the nitrous oxide cars were going over 300 back in the '90's I believe, before they got outlawed. Put up a purse of say 1 million to see who is the quickest. Surely they would be in the high 2's. |
Re: Unlimited
I did some quick calculations, and if all restrictions currently in place were removed, Top Fuel cars could cross the finish line before they left the starting line.

Re: Unlimited
I don't think the tires are up to much more than they can run now on good tracks in good weather.
I am not sure better tires would be available even if somebody funded the project. |
Re: Unlimited
I have a little different take...if they had adopted some of Big's recommendations (for example, must be able to restart the motor after the run or you're dq'd) then you would not need mega sponsors and you'd have large fields fighting for spots and you'd still be running 1320. Fans wouldn't know the difference, not as many aborted runs either. Scott, Blaine and others would still be out there too.
