SM Mopar Edelbrock head question

I see the 60197 head as being a legal head, as approved by NHRA. What is the difference in the 60179 ? On paper they are the same, minus the NHRA emblem on the end.

Worth checking on. I know some of th Edelbrock SBC heads are so big, the only way they can make spec is to basically make them super stock heads $$$. I

Going out on a limb here and say, valve stem size and cnc gasket match of the 60179 are outside the scope of OEM replacement heads for NHRA.

I asked for the bill of materials and although they are similar, I would have to dig a little further and ask if one runs a tool path at the port (match) or something not seen on the BOM. The drawing #'s (not included) are identical, but that doesn't mean one doesn't run an additional step.

All the approved SBM are based on the Edelbrock Performer RPM 6076 casting, which has a catalog part number 60769 assigned to it. If you look in the rocker arm area, you will see the raised casting number 6076, and you will find it in all the SBM Performer RPM cylinder heads.

Also, the outside of the cylinder head does not reflect the actual catalog part number; the additional digit in the catalog part number reflects the configuration of the cylinder head as sold by Edelbrock. In a nutshell, all the SBM Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads use the same casting.

Moreover, the difference between P/N 60197 and 60767 is the combustion chamber size.

Re: SM Mopar Edelbrock head question

I'd get the available head and have someone engrave NHRA into the heads. PITA, but NHRA doesn't have the sense to allow the same head that IS available with zero performance advantage.
