Tom, I think that Allpar.com was just scratching the surface with that press release. The word is that this is the REAL deal, 1968 all over again! I've heard that least one successful west coast team is setting up to put one or more of these cars on the track in short order as soon as they are ready for delivery. Possibly, a Stocker and a Super Stocker. For all we know, there are already several of them in the final preparation stages around the country.

Reading between the lines and combining information from several sources leads me to believe that these cars will not be produced as assembly-line Challengers simply released by the factory to the general public, but will be set up for the best pieces that drag racing technology can provide. Leaf springs, aftermarket brakes, solid rear axle options, accessory delete packages, etc. will make them truly unique platforms, fully homologated for Stock/SS application.

Sounds like Chrysler Corporation remembers how to "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday!

I only hope that the NHRA employee who factored the '67 GT500 "Shelby" Mustangs (and, not the fellow who added factored horsepower to the single 4-bbl NASCAR 426 Hemi before one ever hit the strip) gets the assignment to assign a factor to these cars. It goes without saying, the stroke of a pen can make or break this whole deal...

with that motor and spec sheet on that car, it would get killed in aa/sa.but maybe mopar can get nhra to come up with aa/sa/ah..lol

The machine shop I use just took a stock, crate motor 6.1L 425HP Hemi (SRT8 engine). Changed to bigger injectors, re-curve ignition, re-calibrate fuel. With stock exhaust manifolds (no cat's) and all accessories, made 550 HP. A modified induction version (had 8 throttle bodies like an old short-stack Hilborne) made 600 HP. I imagine this 392 Hemi should be somewhat better...

i am sure a ls-7 zo6 with those mods would respond just as well,i just dont see the big deal on this car [unless your a mopar guy ]the cost to buy and built it into a fast aa/sa could be done on any make you choose.now your car jeff i think is awesome,i have read alot of your posts on other fourms about clutch help,and have used your advice on setting up my soft-loc and i do appreciate it,i have it close now,the jerico goes back in this weekend..everyone loves one brand over another,but this car is no greater then a zo6 or mustang cobra .imo..denny

For me, it's not a brand favorite issue.Although I love the fact Dodge, Chevy, Pontiac, Ford & Shelby now have bitchin' muscle cars. And I agree with you, there isn't a better engine out there than the new LS7 Z06 engine. I hope they place that in the new Camaro! What seperates this race Challenger from the street challenger is the fact it is 800# lighter. It also gets a bigger race only engine and a cool scoop on the hood. Other than the Z06, the others are pretty porky street cars.
I envy anybody that gets to race one of these new cars!!!

Have you looked at the NHRA factor for the LS7? If GM puts the LS7 in the 2009 Camaro, it'll have to weigh near 4000# to run in AA. The actual number is 3958#. Somehow, I just do not see that as a competitive combination. I'm not real sure the LS3 would even be competitive. That's not just my opinion, but the opinion of several more knowledgeable than me.

Chrysler will be building these cars "out of house" much in the same way the Barracuda's & the Dart's were built. The will be spec'ed to run as a stock class car, and will only be availble to customers who are already stock or super stock racers.

We do appreciate that one of the best person who can articulate very well in writing has come out to again beginning to post more . I know he would come around some time must be his age and the fact that I have given him a bad time for not posting more or maybe he has turned around into a conservative and will vote republican LOL
