I don't think crate motors are cheap motors and they aren't actually right out of a crate or a dealership..the motor in our mustang is a 95 fuel injected motor from a 95 cobra with same block and heads found on a cobra just no FI. I think crate motors give me and people like Mike Beard,Chip,Myron and Hillarey a chance to have a fast motor and and a nice car to run at IHRA events if NHRA doesn;t want them or there racers i say who wants to qualify on thursday and run late sunday not me i would be fired for taking to many days off work.each week.. im young and only 23 what do i know i just love drag racing and i would do it with IHRA or NHRA or even at local bracket races.. i do this to have fun with my mom and dad thats what i love about this sport you get to have fun make a few laps in a nice hot rod meet great people and have a blast

thanks myron...i wonder in the meantime before the duster is completed they could make a blue oval wheel..haha that would prob. look stupid..i just checked them out i like the hole pro 2 wheels might get me a set soon...their stuff makes the ole weilds look dim...

lol It shouldn't be too difficult to make. They are always looking for new ideas and you can always doodle-up some lay-outs! I've had GM & Ford people interested in them because it was something different & some may have bought some. Nice thing about the 3-piece is that you can get the centers changed out in the future as well as the offsets!

Good posts from all. Chip Johnson said it best I think. Race what you want and dont look down on the other guy. The class was started originally to allow for DIFFERENT body styles (less boring).and allow less expensive engine combos. I knew when we came up with this concept that the NHRA guys would hate it as its an ego thing with them being beaten by a combo that you didnt have to sell your first born male child to afford the induction system and cylinder heads. To say that crate class is not "PURE" is Bull crap as the stockes of today are more radical with allowed modifications than the Super Stock car I ran in the mid and late '70's. The current crop of stockers (NHRA & IHRA) are not so pure either with "PAPER" cars allowed, transmissions that never came in the combo from the factory, and cams and valve springs that would have been at home in a S/S car only a few years ago. With all of the "HIDDEN" work going on todays stocker is nothing more than a S/S car with 9 inch tires. The current crop of collectors have driven prices up to the nose bleed area for most high HP upper class combos. These cars still are classified from factory shipping weights, engine specs, and a HP rating. I doubt NHRA will ever allow them so its a mute point. Race what you want and enjoy it while you can. What's progress about that???? How come when you look at a IHRA ladder 75% of the cars are CM cars? There has to be a reason all of these guys run Crate classes? I would like to hear why? How come your World champ ( and maybe ours this year :) ) dosen't race a crate car????? Simple so he can race EVERYWHERE. He didn't build a one sanction car and go on the internet and bash the other sanction about that they don't beleive in PROGRESS and that they should adapt their class so they can take their car and race there. Leave Crate cars to the IHRA. If they wanted to do something make a seperate class that races by itself and try that. I don't feel like tuning on my Q jet and breaking stamped rockers, while some guy can go to summit and buy their Heads,Crank,Intake manifold, roller rockers and brand new Holley with a warranty to build a engine thats is equal to a bracket engine and lives just as long. I should be harder to run NHRA stock than that. Just my take. Flame away :)

Tell that to the guys that go to Indy that go home when they don't qualify because it's just a bracket race, or the guys that lost heads up races in Tucon AZ this weekend BECAUSE IT's JUST A BRACKET RACE, some good guys infact. Sounds like you have a good place to race, no need to change NHRA to accomadate you or any of the other Crate guys. No Offence.

Good Point. I just get tired of NHRA racers looking at us like the "REDHEADED STEP CHILDREN" because we run crate motors. Our cars are just as nice, cost just as much, and are just as legal(well most of us) than the "REAL STOCKERS".
I could care less if they ever have crate motors in NHRA. If I want to go run NHRA I have a .90 class car to do it.
