Florida's unemployment reached a 16-year high in December with a rate of 8.1 percent. Palm Beach County's unemployment reached 7.8 percent in December and Broward is at 6.8 percent, according to a report released today by Florida's workforce agency.
December's rate represents 752,000 jobless. The unemployment rate is 0.7 percentage point higher than the revised November rate of 7.4 percent and is up 3.6 percentage points from the December 2007 rate, said the Agency for Workforce Innovation.
The state's current unemployment rate is the highest since September 1992, when the rate was 8.9 percent. Florida's rate is 0.9 percentage point higher than the national unemployment rate of 7.2 percent.
While the biggest job losses continue to be in construction and related trades, unemployment is now spread across most industries in South Florida.
Yep! let's raise the entry fees!
