Bob, a razor blade will work well. When I was racing my street car several years ago, I had coated all the windows with Rain-X. Works great for keeping the windows clear in a rainstorm, but not so good for car numbers and dial-ins. I scraped the area with a razor blade to put the car number, class and dial-ins on, and it worked fine with no damage.

My mother bought a car last year that had paint on the windows, it was acrylic paint. She got the paint off rubbing alcohol.
