I also have no business in commenting on the topic, but I wanted to add my opinion regarding the end of Dan's post..
NHRA's rulebook is in need of a serious facelift. In 2009, it should reflect the sign of the times, including the mighty advancements made by all competitors in Drag Racing today. An example of a well written and thorough rulebook would be the current USGA rulebook for Golf. It covers every angle imaginable to create the most fair and level playing field possible. It does not, however, include crude sketches of valve grind details and driver harnesses from 1968, or whenever that was first done.
It would be nice to see a completely new "book" from NHRA. There are too many gray areas that result in situations where no one is a winner.
