It's not even the state by state, it's the particular idiot that's on duty at the time.

A fellow racer with a ramp truck and a 24' enclosed trailer got stopped after passing the scales going north on I75 in TN. They gave him a choice: $150.00 for a "fuel stamp" or $ 300.00 fine and have someone tow his rig back to AL. He paid the fine.

On the way back he pulled into the south side weigh station and stopped to show them the fuel sticker and they told him he didn't need it and the guy on the other side was just an a**hole......but, he didn't get his money back!
