I was astounded, recently, to learn that the 1957 Mercedes 300 SL (street car; not the race car, although it may have had it, too) had direct injection.

I didn't believe it, so, I checked the information out from several sources, and indeed, it was true.

Direct injection on a gasoline engine 52 years ago.... Who'd-a-thunkit???
