Here is what I did. I have a 89 jeep wrangler with a 4bt cummins with twin turbos estimated around 130 hp 550 ftlbs I am using a 700 R4 with the updated (4L60) internal parts, so it has o.d and lock up converter. So you can use anything you want. You just have to make it work or spend around $1600 for the adapters,
