Default Re: Oooopppsss tranny cooler suggestions ?

If I am not mistaken there is no rule in the NHRA/IHRA rule book that specifically forbids a homemade rail cooler.

I did a lot of vehicle level testing on oil coolers and lines where we would artificially dial in 20% slip into the transmission (generating an huge amount of heat), towing a 25,000 lb. towing dyno, at 110 degrees ambient temperature. Even with all of that the truck we were testing took a while to make max. allowable temperature. Under no circumstances will your race car ever see those type of conditions. It will be trial and error but monitor your temperature gage.

I like to use the intank cooler because as someone else said the transmission will reach operating temp faster. Even in hot weather the intank cooler cools better than the external (air to oil) cooler.

Let us know how things work out.
